Green space in an urban environment is not always easy to come by. For many Chicago residents balancing architecture with outdoor space can be a challenge. For this particular homeowner reinventing their garage rooftop gave them a private place to enjoy lunch in a garden setting. The pergola added both privacy and shade to a rooftop that was previously wide open to neighbors. With limited planting space two rectangular planters were mounted to the wall allowing the owners to grow their own herbs and vegetables in a spot that maximizes the sunlight.
